A quirky, non-traditional Easter celebration
In my family Easter is a Big Deal. It’s a day dedicated to church, food and family, all of which are taken very seriously not with fun Easter table decorations.
Everyone attends church service together, which sometimes it lasts all day. Between services (yes, there can be more than one), is the Easter meal, which rivals the annual Thanksgiving spread. In short, you don’t mess with Easter tradition. But I like to “mess” with things, offer a new take or idea. Create some fun Easter table decorations that are maybe a little bit wacky to take the stress out of it and bring smiles to everyone’s faces.
For example, at my house Thanksgiving is an all-day pajama/Christmas decorating party. Why change out of your PJ’s when those special stretchy pants is so handy after you’ve eaten everything. Not to mention you’re all set for naptime.
I digress. What if we could set a fun, quirky, colorful Easter table that gets everyone talking, laughing and having a good time? I’ve yet to hold Easter dinner at my place, probably because cooking isn’t my thing, but if I did, I envision an unexpected centerpiece, filled with brightly colored baguettes with zany faces painted on. Colorful candies, luxe satin ribbons, bright candy dipped pretzels, candles and other colorful goodies!
Oh! And instead of plain ole knives, forks and such, I’d include a hammer to smash the heck out of some hard-boiled eggs. I see this as a necessary outlet for any family frustrations that might hijack the day.
Soft peach and pink linens and background would balance the brightness of the table decorations and provide a restful place for eyes.
I liked my idea so much, I decided to give it a test run. Out with my cozy bistro set and in went a table for six. Pipe and drape hid my overflower bookshelves…as an introvert, I gotta have my books close by. After that out came the paints and markers to transform store-bought baguettes into table art. These were not meant for consumption but could be if edible paint is used. Put it all together and voila! You’ve got yourself some fun Easter table decorations your guests will love.
